On Monday morning the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District (HKPRD) Health Unit reported that the Blue-Green Algae Bloom Warning remains in place today. The Health Unit is expecting test results from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) on Wednesday. Those results are expected to be more specific than the very general warning presently in place. The warning status is unlikely to change before then.
A visual check of the shoreline this morning shows that the water remains somewhat cloudier than usual. The water advisory will be very disappointing to those who would like to go swimming in the lake, especially those who happen to be vacationing in our area for a short period of time. If you’d like to take the kids for a swim there is a fine public beach in Fenelon Falls, a 10 minute drive from Sturgeon Point. That beach is on the shore of Cameron Lake and is not affected by the algae bloom warning.
