Get Ready for a Fun-Filled Civic Holiday Weekend at Sturgeon Point!

Here’s What’s in Store:

Saturday, August 3rd at 6:00pm – BBQ and Street Dance in the Park.  BBQ activities include the unveiling of a 125th anniversary plaque for the park and a chance to sign a Sturgeon Point flag that will be added to the Sturgeon Point time capsule for future generations.  Also on August 3rd is the SLSC Civic Holiday Regatta.  For details go here.

We’ll also have a table set up at the Civic BBQ for those of you who want to join SPA, renew your memberships or make a donation.  You can also go to the Membership page to do all of the above.

If you placed an order for 125th anniversary swag, you can pick it up at the BBQ. If you didn’t pre order swag and you would like to take home some frog socks, we’ve got you covered!  For just $12.00 you could own a pair of these beauties!

The 186th Anniversary of the Sturgeon Point Regatta

Of course, this weekend also holds one of Sturgeon Point’s most cherished traditions – the swimming, canoe and running races. Here are this weekend’s programs:

Swimming and Canoe races

Where:  Public Beach
When:  Sunday, August 4th
Time:  2:00 PM

Running Races

Where:  Swannanoa Front Lawn
When:  Monday, August 5th
Time:  10:00 AM

* Printed programs will be available in the newsletter boxes at the bulletin boards at both the park and mailboxes.  You can also pick them up at the BBQ as well as the swimming, canoe, and running races.

Please note:  We are still looking for volunteers for all of these events.  The BBQ, Street Dance and historic races continue because of the generosity of time by volunteers from the Sturgeon Point community.

Bike Safety Update

For those travelling to and from the Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club, there is a new leg of the bike path. This provides an alternate bike route into the club from the top of the hill by the Wroe’s greenhouse.

When you pass the Wroe’s driveway, look for a path to the right, just before you get to the downhill. Take the right, and you will emerge at the north end of the Boathouse.

Remember, this is still a path and not a roadway so please use caution when navigating the terrain.

A reminder that anyone under the age of 18 MUST wear a helmet when riding their bike or anything with wheels.

For anyone under 16, parents and guardians MUST ensure the child is wearing a helmet.

The “2-4-1 Helmet Salute” is an easy way to make sure your helmet fits right so it can protect you:

  • the edge of the helmet should be two fingers above the eyebrows to protect the forehead;
  • four fingers to ensure the straps meet in a V shape just below the ears;
  • one finger should fit between the chin and the chin strap; and
  • it should not shift around more than an inch in any direction.
