Ontario Laser Masters Championship

SLSC will be hosting the Ontario Laser Masters Championship again this year!

It will take place on Saturday, July 28th and Sunday, July 29th.

The Sailing Club is looking for billets for the participants of this regatta.   Billets will be required on Friday July 27 and Saturday 28. The sailors will be 35 years and older, and lunch and dinner will be provided by the Sailing Club. All that’s really needed is a bed and a simple breakfast.

If you are able to help out, please contact Clare Predergast at 705-887-5411, 647-282-1981 or [email protected]

Annual Civic BBQ and Street Dance

Our annual Civic weekend BBQ and Street Dance is 2 weeks away.

And what makes the Street Dance so rockin’ – the music!! And this is where SPA needs your help.

What music do you want to hear that night?  What songs get you up dancing?  What songs gets your feet tapping? What songs gets you humming? or What songs gets you smiling?  What are the classic Sailing Club Friday Night Dance songs you want to hear?

Please tell us so we will have that music at the Street Dance!  Leave comments here or on our Facebook page.

SPA is also looking for all budding DJs in our community.  Do you like spinning tunes?  Then please let us know and you can have a DJ shift at the Street Dance.  If interested, either email us at [email protected] or leave a comment on our Facebook page.

Can’t wait to see everyone with their dancing shoes on in a few short weeks!

Have questions about blue-green algae?

Kawartha Protect Our Water (KPOW) is having a public information meeting on Thursday, July 19th at the Bocaygeon Service Centre to discuss this topic of blue-green algae in our lake.

The meeting gets underway at 7 p.m.

More information can be found at http://www.mykawartha.com/community/article/1400856–meeting-offers-insight-into-algae-cause-and-cures OR http://www.kpow.info/

The event features Trent University eco-researcher Colleen Middleton who will help people become familiar with some of the algae common to the area – of which not all of it is harmful – and learn how simple changes can have an impact on their growth.

The meeting will also feature discussions on the proposed governmental changes to the Trent-Severn Waterway and the implications with Brian Hunt of Voices for the Trent. People are invited to bring their questions and concerns.

And if you ever want to know if the Sturgeon Point Public Beach is safe to swim at please check here:  http://www.hkpr.on.ca/InfoSet/Environments/BeachWaterTesting/Beaches/BeachesCityofKawarthaLakes.aspx

This link will also be added to our Links page.

Sailing Club Celebration – July 14th!

Dear Friends, Family and Neighbours of the Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club,

Please join us for cocktails in celebration of our newly constructed, and nearly completed, exciting new building and the wonderful community that made it possible!

When:  Saturday, July 14th from 7:00 to 8:30p.m.
(The weekly Friday evening junior club dance will be moved to Saturday and held at the same time in the “old” building in order to accommodate childcare)

Where: S.L.S.C.’s New Building

There’ll be an open wine & beer bar, and some fabulous finger foods.

These festivities will be immediately followed by a good ole fashioned Sailing Club Dance for grown-ups. So polish up your boogie shoes and prepare to bust a move (and hopefully nothing else) to a great selection of your favourite S.L.S.C. dance tunes!

Dress: Your best tight white suit or polyester mini dress. Failing that, comfortable and casual!

Donations to the “Building Fund” will be gratefully accepted.

We’re looking forward to seeing you!

EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
